Demo Reel

Here is a quick sample of my visual work - my work as cinematographer/editor mostly consists of experimental and music video pieces.

Illumination (2023)

Short experimental piece exploring detail, light and shadow-  fragmented, the familiar becomes an alien landscape.

Johnny ( Bourbon Squirrel), 2021

Music Video for Bourbon Squirrel's song 'Johnny' directed and edited by Courtney Spivak - The project was based on a light-hearted concept presented by the band about an oblivious male antagonist who gets his comeuppance.  The video was shot in Detroit's Boston Edison neighborhood and Clinton Township, Michigan.

Whatever Helps You Sleep At The Wheel (Rottinghouse) ,
2018

Rottinghouse is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Jaye Thomas and visual artist, Courtney Spivak. Thomas approaches the music of Rottinghouse though the lenses of the cold wave and post punk genres uttering dark lyrical meditations over sparse, monolithic musical compositions. Spivak uses lighting, costumes, make up, props, and found footage video projection to create a transportive visual environment that’s cold and ethereal. Patient Passenger is the first full-length release from Rottinghouse. The vast, open soundscapes and thorny lyrics deal with themes of loneliness and isolation juxtaposed with crowded urban landscapes, mass transit, and the age of connectivity.
